Hesaraghatta is a small town about 30 kms North west of Bangalore with many attractions that are significantly different from the ones that are present in the city. It is a place for a variety of new experiences.

Byalkere peacock sanctuary

Located closer to the city on a slight deviation from the Hessarghatta main road at Silvepura is a state goverment forest. There are over 20 variants of peacocks in the sanctuary. The chances of sighting one is higher early in the morning. You need prior permission from the forest authorities if you want to enter inside the forest area.

Hesarghatta Lake

This is a manmade reservoir, about 1000 acres, built across the Arkavathy river in 1894 to meet 3-years' water needs of the then city of Bangalore. The lake goes dry in years when the rainfall is less. Bangalore is not affected much as Cauvery is currently the main source of water supply for the city.

The vastness of the area, the clean & fresh air that you breath there and the birds that are sighted make the place a healthy and enjoyable getaway from the crowded Bangalore city.

Government Television and Film Institute (Adarsh Film & TV Institute

This institute conducts 3-year diploma courses in Cinematography and Sound Recording & Engg for the Film industry.

Horticultural Research Institute (IIHR)

Spread over an area of 650 acres, the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) does research on various aspects of horticulture such as fruits, vegetables, plants-ornamental, medicinal and aromatic and mushrooms and imparts training to farmers and officials.

The place is open till 4pm

Indo-Danish Poultry and Dairy farms

With its livestock breeding and poultry centres which face the Lake, the center is a great resource center for the farmer and has so much to attract any visitor as well. It is a very good place to see various breeding programs of domestic birds like swan, duck, poutry and animals like cattle, rabbits, fish, semen harvesting of bulls. The imported cows, breeding area, shed for the calves are all interesting places to visit.

They conduct much appreciated training programs for the farmer and veterinary people.

Now known as State Livestock Breeding & Training Centre, it is a Government of Karnataka Organisation (SLBTC)

Nrityagram dance village

Expounding classical indian dance, founded by the famous Odissi dancer Ms. Portima Gauri. The village celebrates ‘Vasanta Habba’, the festival of spring, every year in the first week of February attracts a large crowd even from outside the country.

Visitors are allowed on all days 10am – 2pm except Mondays.
